If Ted Kennedy were forced to live with Government Bureaucrats running his health care plan, he wouldn't have made it past 50. |

So they're making a version of Rock Band made entirely of Beatles songs.
The only downside is that after 8 years of playing together, you and your friends never speak to each other ever again.
EDIT: And it turns out that once again a major site has stolen something from my LiveJournal. Lovely! |

On January 21st, a marine walked up to the White House and asked the gatekeeper if he can see President Bush.
"Sir," the gatekeeper replied, "George Bush is no longer President."
The next day, the marine came back and again asked to meet with President Bush.
"Sir, like I told you yesterday, George Bush no longer lives here."
The marine came back again on the third day and asked again to see President Bush.
"Sir, this is the third time I've told you. Why do you keep asking me? George Bush is no longer president!"
"I know," replied the soldier. "I just love hearing you say that." |

NYT:
President Obama on Monday will direct federal regulators to move swiftly to grant California and 13 other states the right to set strict automobile emissions and fuel efficiency standards, two administration officials said Sunday evening.
The directive makes good on an Obama campaign pledge and marks a sharp reversal from Bush administration policy. Granting California and the other states the right to regulate tailpipe emissions is one of the most dramatic actions Mr. Obama can take to quickly put his stamp on environmental policy. |

The Executive Order revokes Executive Order 13440 that interpreted Common Article 3 of the Geneva Conventions. It requires that all interrogations of detainees in armed conflict, by any government agency, follow the Army Field Manual interrogation guidelines. The Order also prohibits reliance on any Department of Justice or other legal advice concerning interrogation that was issued between September 11, 2001 and January 20, 2009.
The Order requires all departments and agencies to provide the ICRC access to detainees in a manner consistent with Department of Defense regulations and practice. It also orders the CIA to close all existing detention facilities and prohibits it from operating detention facilities in the future.

NBC Nightly News noted Obama was "reversing a Bush Administration policy to hold terror suspects and accused enemy combatants at a prison in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and halting military commission trials." The Financial Times reports Obama is "preparing to sign an order on Thursday that would call for the detention facility in Cuba to be shut within a year."
Two other orders, says the AP, will "review military trials of terror suspects and end harsh interrogations." AFP notes the draft also says "no one should be held in any detention facility controlled by the United States in conditions that do not conform with Common Article 3 of the Geneva Conventions."
---
In a front-page story headlined "Obama Starts Reversing Bush Policies," the Washington Post reports that "sources...said Obama also will sign two executive orders altering CIA detention and interrogation rules, limiting interrogation standards in all U.S. facilities worldwide to those outlined in the Army Field Manual, and prohibiting the agency from secretly holding terrorist detainees in third-country prisons." The Washington Times also says Obama's will "order the closure of so-called black sites, where CIA and European security services have interrogated terrorist suspects."
---
The AP reports President Obama "asked the Pentagon to do whatever additional planning is necessary to 'execute a responsible military drawdown from Iraq.'" Obama's statement was "issued by the White House after the gathering," opening "his much-anticipated effort to withdraw troops more swiftly than the previous administration had proposed."
---
NBC Nightly News reported, "The President signed his first executive orders. Freezing staff pay raises and imposing a ban on former staffers from ever lobbying his White House."
---
President Obama has signed another order reversing President George W. Bush's controversial order that gave ex-presidents and their heirs broad authority to stop release of White House records. |

The original eight reindeer were created with the poem "A visit from St. Nick (The night before Christmas)" in 1822.
Rudolph wasn't introduced until the 1930s, with Montgomery Ward ad campaigns.
So this raises the question: Is Rudolph canon? Is he nothing more than Christmas fan-fiction? |
